So I've been trying to come up with a solution to my shoe problem. That problem being that I don't have my flats and sandals organized in a way where I can get to them. You see, I live in a super super tiny room and my shoes were basically shoved into boxes. It hasn't been a problem until now since the warmer weather is suddenly upon us. I had seen this tutorial on Pinterest a while back and had mixed feelings about it. While I love the idea of making your own shoe hangers, I could never figure out how I could have extra hanging space in my closet (I value that small space way too much.) Since I did have extra wall space this is what I came up with.
I used these Drip-Dry hangers from Walmart and some pliers/wire clippers. You could/should use just plain wire hangers (like the kind you get from the cleaners.) It was just easier for me to buy new hangers than collect them.
Cut the hanger towards the ends.
Using the pliers and your hands, bend the wires downward.
About 1/3 of the way down, bend the wire back up.
Half of the way down bend the wire again upwards.
I figured out a way to use the bottom part of the hanger rather than throwing it away. If you aren't going to be using these hangers on wall space like I am, this part may not be that useful to you. Start off with this piece facing down.
Bend the wire into an "A" shape like above.
Bend the last 1/3 of the wire upward. This hanger suit your flats best and the other hanger suits your sandals later.
I used these hooks that screw into the wall.
I screwed in 3 of the hooks in a line on my wall.
Then I took yarn and connected the hooks together.
Yes, it looks pretty crazy without any shoes on it but when you get all of the shoes hung up, you don't really notice what the hangers are hanging on.
This is how I am using these hangers.
This is how I intend to use the hangers.
But they really could work with any shoe.
I still have some shoes to hang up but my hands got tired from cutting wire so I'm taking a break and eventually the wall will be full. I'll add a picture when I am done hanging all of my shoes.
whoa! my bf would kill me if i had shoes hanging all over the apartment but this is a genius idea!

ReplyDeleteA superb space saver! I was also thinking what you'll do with the bottom part of the hanger. Now I get it that closed shoes are for the bottom part and the sandals are for the upper part based on the hanger's cut. Nice home project! I have to try this!-Denise
ReplyDeletejust what I need now! my room is a lot clutter and I don't have any idea what to do with my shoes! thanks to you! my problem is solved! glad I saw this!

ReplyDeleteGreat idea. But I can never find wire hangers anymore.
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea! Cheap and good! I think i will try to twist wires rather than use hangers. Cheaper for me since there is some much wire lying in the storeroom. Really glad that I found your website! Thank you so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteso great! I had the same problem as you: I got caught by the shoe hangers idea, but didn't have space in my closet, so I was looking for an option that allowed me to use the back of my door, but without having to buy those borings generic shoe organizers.
ReplyDeleteThanx! :)
Problem solved! Thanks for the great idea!
