So we saw this tutorial the other day and thought it was brilliant. Hence, the name. I think I watched the video about 7 times because what I thought was happening in the video wasn't working on my hair. I figured I (Casey) would take some pictures and explain to you exactly what I figured out. Basically... you should have semi-dirty hair, or product to texturize your hair.
Pull your hair together to one side. Separate the hair above your hands and put your fore finger and thumb through the hole.
Grab the bottom of your hair and pull through the hole. You will repeat this step over and over until you reach the bottom of your hair.
To make sure you don't have one big hole down the middle of your "braid", put your fingers through one side of the last twist. It's kind of hard to explain but just make sure you don't repeat the step right through the middle each time.
Finish with a clear elastic and you are done! THE. FASTEST. "BRAID". EVER. I cannot wait to wear this in my hair all day every day.
I've never seen this done before. It sorta looks like a fishtail but messier and cuter.. I love it! Def. going to try it out!
ReplyDeleteI thought for sure that was a fishtail braid until I actually read the directions. Wishing my hair was long enough to do this!!

Love this!! Now that I've cut my hair off short, i can't do this to myself, but i'm surely gonna find somebody to do it on! hehe. Thanks for the post!
ReplyDelete...yet another cute hairstyle that makes me wish my hair grew faster!
ReplyDeleteThis looks SO much easier than a fishtail braid && still has that same look. I was just tweeting earlier about how I cannot figure the stupid fishtail braid out. LOL thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI had such a hard time with this on my sister's hair, she has alot of texture too. It never turned out right and I just created a tangled mess :( Not sure what I did wrong.
ReplyDeleteI had to do this a lot of times before I could get it right. You could try using a hair tie and moving it down each time you pulled your hair through. I did that a few times to help me as well.
DeleteI don't really get this. I tried doing but I just a got a huge hole in my hair.
DeleteThis doesn't work well on my thick, curly hair, but a real fishtail braid looks great in my hair. I practiced on my husband's hair to perfect the fishtail lol.
DeleteHmmmmm.....I can't seem to get this right :(
ReplyDeleteI need to keep practicing, I guess.
XOXO
Make sure you are doing this: "To make sure you don't have one big hole down the middle of your "braid", put your fingers through one side of the last twist. It's kind of hard to explain but just make sure you don't repeat the step right through the middle each time." Look at the picture really good for this step b/c it's really hard to explain.
DeleteVery cute braid! And I love the awesome shirt you're wearing! Where is it from?
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I LOVE having short hair...but the only thing is I can't do cute braids like this! UGH.

I've been sitting here for the last fifteen minutes trying to get the groove of this braid!!! Hope I can figure it out- it's super cute!!!!!

THANK YOU FOR THIS!! This is brilliant oh my goodness!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute, easy and good for my kid. She can even do it herself. And I love that you spelled "every day" correctly. Thank you!
ReplyDeletehummm....i'm thinking i can do this with my braids now on the weekend when i'm not in the office, very cool, and less work then a fishbraid!
ReplyDeletei cant figure out how to do this!! when i put it through the hole it doesn't stay it just twists the two pieces... help??
ReplyDeleteMake sure you are doing this: "To make sure you don't have one big hole down the middle of your "braid", put your fingers through one side of the last twist. DeleteRead the instructions. Don't just look at the pictures.
Found this post on Pinterest and i just have to ask, what blush are wearing here? It looks beautiful and not the typical pinky blush. Please let me know! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I saw this on The First Lime, but didn't quite understand how to do it, so thanks for clarifying!!! :D
ReplyDeleteWell, this is just genius! I love it!

What video was this from cause I can't seem to get it right there is always a hole down the middle and no I don't go through the middle each time it just doesn't work for me so if u could post a link to the video it would be great! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThe braid is really pretty, but I have to say that your blouse is fantastic!! Where did you find it?
ReplyDeletethis is nearly impossible for me. i have no idea why. After I split in 2, i try to pull my hair through the hole but its not resulting in anything.
ReplyDeleteSame happens to me :(
DeleteIt took me a while to figure it out. I kept splitting the hair and pulling through at the same place (at the nape of my neck) and I ended up with a big hole down the middle. What you need to do is keep moving the hole down the "braid" as well. Look closely at the photos and you'll see what I mean. It's hard to explain but I hope that helps.
DeleteI can't do it!! :S
ReplyDeleteI was having problems as well. But, after a messing around with it for around ten minutes I almost had it down.
ReplyDelete1.) I wet my hair down to a little past "damp." I couldn't get my hair to be tight enough on that first twist if my hair was too dry. My hair had also been washed earlier that morning.
2.) After making sure my hair was wet enough, I gathered my hair around the nape of my neck on the side like she shows in the picture. Then, in order to get it nice and tight, I gave it a counterclockwise twist.
3.) I then put my fingers through like she shows making sure to go through the thickest part of my hair.
And when it comes to the not going through the middle every time, she's right, it's hard to explain. You just have to play around with it and find what works.
Don't give up too quickly! This is so simple once you get the initial movements down.
This is awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI can manage this easily, but I cannot do the actual fishtail!
Thank you so much for posting this!
(Cute blouse!)
This knotted the crap out of my hair.... Terrible, terrible tutorial.
ReplyDeleteNice. Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteI love this braid! I'm definitely going to try this. I also love your blog; so cute! It'd be great if you check out mine too! alldressedupeverywheretogo.blogspot.com :)
ReplyDeleteI love this!! Sooo Perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the fishtail braid but I am just terrible at doing my hair. This is so easy that even I can do it, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteO my - I just tried this on my hair - took all of 15 seconds. Thanks so much for the pictures and directions, it's so easy!!
ReplyDeleteBrie @ Breezy Pink Daisies
So glad I found this!
ReplyDeleteI'm having troubles on figuring out how to start this braid :/ like, i don't know how to explain it, but when you first put your fingers through your hair at the thick part, and pull it through, mine just twirls around and goes all the way through instead of looking like yours in the fourth picture, but then, if I keep going, the braid starts working, but not until it's like halfway done, and the top part of it is just all untwisted and holy :/ Anybody understand what I mean and have any ideas on what I might be doing wrong?
ReplyDeleteWow. Thank you SO much for this! I found this on Pinterest, and I'm so glad I clicked on that picture.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try this!!

Is the hair twisted on the bottom part each time before being pulled through?
ReplyDeleteOr you could just do the fishtail, which is actually really simple. You split in 2, take stand from 1st side, add to 2nd side. Take strand from 2nd side, add to 1st side. Just keep criss crossing back and forth.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the fishtail braid is so simple to do for me, thank goodness, but when I tried to explain what I was doing while fishtail braiding my cousin's hair, she just couldn't get it, period, and I just couldn't understand why... hmmm guess this is a good example of how our minds work so differently but at the same time are so much alike, make sense? Seems like those of us that can do fishtail cannot do this and vice versa. Now I'm going to give it a try, I bet I won't be able to do it!
DeleteI tried this as soon as I read it and I'm really liking the result. Because I didn't brush my hair first, it ended up knotting itself at the bottom so I didn't have to tie it off. I don't think that will last though :D
ReplyDeleteI was able to do it the first time and I thought your tutorial and pics were excellent. I love the look! I can see where this would not work on fine hair unless you sprayed your hair down with hair spray or other product first. Thanks for the info. I was wondering how this was done and now I know!
ReplyDeleteeven though it was pretty messy, it had the right look the first time i tried it and came out without any tangles. i'll have to do some experimenting to get it cleaner! thanks so much for sharing. for someone who absolutely stinks at doing hair (a bun and ponytail are as far as my repertoire goes), this is great.
ReplyDeletepeace!
My hair is very thick and wavey and I think that made this super difficult to do? it kept knotting up heaps ><'
ReplyDeletevery beautifully explained but i have very thin hair nt able to do prprly,,,will keep trying,,thnxs again
ReplyDeletei also did it through the same hole until i saw your comment with 'hair tie' it helped a lot ;) few more times and im becoming a pro :D thank you! its amazing <3
ReplyDeleteIt also works for a french braid. Just add the pieces to the one's you pull through : ) i also like that as I move it down my hair tightens around the bottom so I almost dont need a hair tie! Almost ; )
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS! So quick and easy to do. The key to doing this braid is in photo #5. It shows how some of your hair on the right is going to the left when you put your fingers through to separate the hair. This is what prevents a big hole down the middle. Thanks for sharing! ~ NC
ReplyDeleteWow! That is so clever!
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant. What a clever workaround to avoid the hole. I've tried it today and it works. I also coiled it up into a side bun and it looks lovely and so quick.
