If you are or are going to need a last minute gift, this is a great idea! This sugar scrub is quick and you probably already have everything you already need to make it. Use it on your hands, elbows, or any rough spot where you need a little exfoliation. It's also edible...? That's not necessarily good or bad but let's just say I used this stuff on my lips and... it's was real nice.
All you need it some white sugar, olive oil and lemon extract. Here are the measurements we used:
-3 Cups White Sugar
-1 Cup Olive Oil
-1 Tbs. Lemon Extract (add more if the scent is too subtle)
Mix it all up in a bowl. Of course, you can make these measurements smaller or larger depending on how much you want to make. This recipe filled up 6 of our little jars.
We cut card stock circles to fit in the jar lids and just hand wrote on top. You could print out the words if you would like.
This probably took about 20 minutes from start to finish. Literally. So easy and it makes your hands feel so soft!
I made this last year as a gift, but instead of lemon extract I used fresh lemon juice. The acid will help with exfoliating too. I would warn the people that you make this for not to keep it for more than a month or so. It's okay as it is, but if they get water in it (which, let's face it, they will) it will cause bacteria or mold to grow.
ReplyDeleteDid it still work with fresh lemon juice?
DeleteYou have the best DIYs, this looks like it'll make such a cute little gift and I'm tempted to try it out :)

ReplyDeleteHey, where do I find these little jars?
ReplyDeleteIt's a long story how we acquired these but basically I have no idea where they are from. However, I think I've actually seen them in the grocery store in the section where they sell canning supplies. They are just little mason jars. They are used for homemade jams & jellies.
DeleteHobby Lobby carries all kinds of jars with lids for all kinds of projects. they go half off every other week. Or if your like me, I buy groceries according to the jars that I can upcycle. Clean it really good and run it through the dishwasher. Hot glue on a pretty ribbon then a home made tag. You can cover the lid with hot glue and material or modge podge and scrapbook paper. I like to make material doilies that tie around the tip with a ribbon that way its wrapped up as a gift but will not get destroyed once they start using it. PS you can also use coffee grinds and Almond oil or walnut oil, it is used in SA as a cellulite reducer. I didn't see any results but loved the smell and the feel of my skin afterwards. ( be careful to really rince the shower out after asthe coffee grains can stain it.)
DeleteYou could use these spice jars from IKEA - RAJTAN - http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40064702/
ReplyDeleteor you could use these -DROPPAR- http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40113613/. They're pretty cheap.
I'm using the rajtan jars and filling with this scrub for Christmas presents.
These look fab!
ReplyDeleteAnd if added to water it just might make lemonade. Love Rachel Allison.

ReplyDeleteWhat is the "best for ..." time?
I made it today, on 1, May, but Mothers' day is on 4.
It will be good, won't it?
Thanks! <3
How does sugar not just make you sticky? is it like a lotion or a soap?
ReplyDeleteI love this! I would suggest less oil and if you don't like lemon add vanilla extract and that smells great too!
