DIY: Table Runner (Beginner's Sewing Project)

Hello friends! Today I'm going to show you a really quick sewing project that would be perfect for beginners. We always have a hard time finding good table runners, and we especially never find any that are long enough for our outdoor table. All in all, this project took me about 30 minutes. If you know how to hem anything, then you will know how to make a table runner! Anyway, we used this runner for a ladies' brunch we had over the weekend, so stay tuned for those photos soon!
To start out, buy 2 yards of the fabric of your choosing. If you aren't needing a long table runner like ours, you could just get 1 yard! Lay the fabric folded in half (usually how it comes).
Measure 15 inches from the edge. You can adjust this according to how wide or thin you'd like your table runner.
Since my fabric is plaid and has many straight lines on it, I just measures and cut along the line that was right at 15 inches. If you decide not to use plaid, just mark out the 15" mark all the way down the fabric and cut.
Now you should have two pieces. Lay the 15" edges together, right sides together and pin along the edge.
Sew a straight stitch along the edge.
Iron the seam from the backside.
It should look something like this.
Fold over all the edges twice to create a rolled hem. Use pins to secure the hem, and continue along all edges.
Sew a straight stitch along all edges and your are done!
I will probably make another one of these for Thanksgiving and Christmas, just have to find the right fabric first! The good thing about table runners is that you can have the same exact neutral settings and decor and change your table runner, and it will adapt to whatever style you are going for. It's the easiest way to add something to your table without breaking the bank. Anyway, stay tuned for more tablescape tutorials and inspiration!
